About the Role

The Partnerships Manager - Expansions is responsible for developing and implementing commercial and strategic relationships with organizations in accordance with the company's overarching objective, goals and strategies while developing and maintaining a partnership management system. In markets where price differentiation is unsustainable, Wasoko’s path to becoming the #1 partner for goods and services to the largest duka network is contingent on our ability to develop excellent relationships with our suppliers thus offering best prices for our customers across geographies. You will support the operations to ensure Wasoko is always receiving the best margins, supplier terms and proactively onboarding new products across all markets.

Reporting into: Head of Expansions

Location: East Africa with travel across the continent 80% of the time

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct market research in all new markets to identify and prioritize the top SKUs for each market
  • Initiate supplier relationships for each new market before handing over to the country team.
  • Onboard new suppliers onto the Wasoko system ensuring they meet all regulatory requirements
  • Negotiate terms and conditions of supplier partnerships to ensure Wasoko gets the best margins and credit terms in the market
  • Setup a systematic, process-driven approach to partner outreach and relationship management in order to maintain strong client relationships
  • In conjunction with the Procurement team, develop and initiate a procurement plan for new markets
  • Collaborate with senior management and Partnerships teammates to develop a product assortment strategy
  • Forecast, measure, and report the results of various projects with partners, including co-created and/or co-branded content promotions, lead sharing, and/or event partnerships


  • Preferred 3 years of experience in a similar role
  • Bachelor degree, preferably in Business Administration,
  • Ability to work efficiently and independently in a fast-paced sales environment
  • Strong selling, negotiating and consulting skills
  • Effective interpersonal and analytical abilities
  • Willingness to travel for work within the continent
  • Must love working with people and cross-cultural teams
  • You are highly goal-oriented, assertive and a hands-on, problem solver.
  • Working knowledge of French or Portuguese is an added advantage
